    It was ok

“I have no idea what to expect staying at a MS hotel for the first time, but based on amenities, apart from the fancy decorations, it reminds me of an Ibis or Travelodge. You get one small bar of soap, to wash your hands and shower with. Two empty plastic cups, two small boxed water 500ml (they don’t replace if you finished them), and a small pack of 4x facial cotton and a nail file. Granted the latter vanity pack is not something you’ll get at lower scale hotel, but what we paid, we expect a lot more than just a basic room with nothing. We had to call several times for a proper shower gel plus body moisturiser. The location is ok, around 20 mins walk to the Vatican but you’ll pass like a local high street with restaurants etc. The metro (Cipro)is about 7 mins walk. Overall it’s an overpriced OK hotel. Also, it’s in a residential area so your room may likely be facing someone’s flat. We love Rome though.”

    Clean rooms good location

“It was nice not staying in the busy part of Rome. Just a couple short blocks from the metro made it extremely convenient. Was able to experience the coffee shops and grocery stores of the locals for a real taste of Rome. Our room was a good size and clean. We would recommend and stay again.”

Well located, good stay & close to Metro

“Customer service was great. The room was lovely and spacious. Breakfast was also very good and loved that the hotel was just a few meters from a Metro Train station.”

    Good location

“The Reception Team were helpful. When walking into the reception lobby at times it appeared to be kaos due to the small area and confined space for the reception staff to check customers in, The feeling was similar to a busy airport. . The restuarant prices were poor value. Not sure how often the pool is cleaned but bandaids on the bottom of the pool are not a good look over the three swims we had.. No tea and coffee facilities in the room which is offered in the most basic of hotels. Houskeeping was excellent.”

    Doest deliver anymore.

“Some of the stuff still tries to do a great job but all over the place you can feel bad management. Probably they are saving money. At breakfast not enough people working. Used dishes on every table, hard to find one without. And it would be great if there were stuff making scrambled eggs or more…. We could ask to make coffee , but no one was around and when it was you could feel that no one wants to be there or provide a good service. Long lines when I had to check in, forgot welcome drinks. “Snacks and cookies” were 2 cookies. One to each :). It was delivered to our room and how I suppose to eat them if there is no coffee or tee? Rooms don’t have coffee maker or water boiler and it’s okey. But no room service. Important to know. I ordered through secret escape and it was not the room what I expected. The guy at the reception said it’s nothing he can do , but the girl who come next morning fixed everything. As I wrote there are some good workers. Bartender working in outside terrace were nice and friendly and did a good job, but also what was difficult to understand and is misleading. Hotel is at least 15 minutes distance from Vatican museum. We used 26. while very optimistic «few steps» is written on the webside. So sum up. Hotel is not that close to anything. You feel like you are already outside ancient Roma so if you stay because of the touristic sites -choose different one.”

Very funky hotel but service misses the mark

“Hotel is really nice, funky decor and has a modern vibe. Room was big and bed comfortable Reception staff friendly but other experiences left a lot to be desired. Breakfast, which was included in our rate, was very average and the service was terrible - gave you the impression that they resented you even being there. We complained and it improved things slightly but not dramatically. Then there was just lack of attention to detail, for example no water provided in the gym. It's a shame because it has potential to be a great hotel but the service and customer experience lets it down.”

    Last time

“Stayed with you before in other cities. Booked through your website. A few days later I realized that I could have saved almost 1500 Euros by booking through another website. Reached out to you. “Best price guaranteed” did NOT come into effect. Got upgraded but the upgrade does not cover the 1500 Euros. Breakfast = still bread. Service not paying attention to the room and a little rude when you would like to order coffee. Bar = I ordered a beer at rooftop. Wanted to pay on the spot instead of charging it to the room. The waitress had a fit because she had to go get another machine.”

Lively atmosphere, polite and welcoming service, great facilities.

“At first I was a little overwhelmed by the Millennial ambience, but I warmed to it. The staff were helpful and fun. The only problems I encountered were a meal that did not include everything on the menu, and sometimes slow service in the restaurant.”

Great stay celebrating our Honeymoon at Mama Shelter!

“Rome was the last leg of our Italy Honeymoon vacation, we had an amazing stay at Mama Shelter. Our room was clean and modern, we loved the patio and the walk in shower. We were pleasantly surprised by a dessert congratulating us on our Honeymoon when we checked into our room, which as such a thoughtful touch! We will certainly recommend Mama Shelter to our friends and family :)”

Good stay with small disappointments for disabled people

“Nice big room, but difficult to get in with a wheelchair because of the clothes rack. Nice large bathroom but the toilet is too high and too close to the wall. It would be nice to have armrests by the toilet to supplement the handles on the wall. Nice non-slip coating in the shower cabin. A loose or wall-mounted bath chair is missing. I missed a shelf for toilet bags in the bathroom and the possibility to hang towels to dry. A nice big bath towel on a hook won't dry in a day”

    A disappointing stay

“Checkin was chaotic as a lot of people and luggages were just squeezed in the limited lobby area. Staff were really cold, not sure if it is just us or not (I don’t wanna easily put a racism label). After we asked for another duvet, one of the staff came with really rude attitude questioning what we actually need, making us feel that we had created huge trouble for him by asking for another duvet…”

    Good but room to improve

“The hotel was quirky and fun. Friendly staff. Location was some way from the historic centre but it was quiet at night as a result. Room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet was frustrating because every day there was always something (or several things at once) missing, particularly spoons and bowls. Food and drinks would run out and you had to mention it to staff to get it replaced, no one seemed to be checking up on this. The selection of bread was very limited and the best bread would run out. I prefer to have yogurt available in large bowls for self service. But what there was was nice.”

    The best and the worst

“I always stay here when in Rome. Great location, good vibe. I was pleasantly surprised on my first night by the quality of the food and service was truly outstanding. I took the octopus and it was the best I can recall. They also swapped the potato for veggies, no fuss. The worst has to be breakfast on the last day. I made the mistake of ordering a cappuccino with the same guy as the previous day. Then i had to searching. This time again. Having arrived at 07.22, I asked the maitre D if one of the drinks was mine (pointing out at 07,45. That i had been waiting 15 minutes. She said “ no you haven’t and if you are in rush use the machine over there.! “ This was the same lady who offered me a small wooden spoon to eat cereal with as the large metal breakfast spoons had run out!! So I went over the street and bought a delicious cappuccino as I had said i would. Highly recommended!! (The caffetteria opposite that is. )”
